| Our Parish Mission
We at St. Mary of the Assumption, in Scottsville, New York, are a small parish with a big heart. United through Baptism, we gather as Roman Catholics, celebrating our faith and worshipping God through prayer and sacraments. Using the Gospel as our guide, we share the joy and sorrow of our parish family and compassionately reach out to our brothers and sisters in the wider community. As stewards of the gifts God has given us, we work to become the Body of Christ, sharing Jesus' love by living the Word of God. We are committed to prayer, service and continuing our faith journey together.
Five Saints West Planning Group
Within the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rochester, the Southwest Monroe-Northwest Livingston Planning Group was formed in 1998, comprised of St. Christopher (North Chili), St. Columba/St. Patrick (Caledonia), St. Mary of the Assumption (Scottsville) and St. Vincent DePaul (Churchville). In 1999, the group took the name of Five Saints West. Its council includes the pastoral leaders and three appointed parishioners from each church, a communications expert, and a diocesan staff member assigned by Bishop Matthew Clark to support and guide the pastoral planning process. The council is commissioned to identify pastoral needs and develop creative responses in order to maintain vitality within our faith-filled communities, as we face changes in our demographic and economic conditions and a declining number of priests.
On the evening of February 7, 2006, the parish councils and staff of each parish affirmed a 5-Year Five Saints West Pastoral Plan, and on March 15, 2006, Bishop Clark sent a letter affirming the 5-Year Plan. It outlines the gradual clustering of St. Columba/St. Patrick, St. Mary of the Assumption and St. Vincent DePaul with one pastoral leader by year 2011. For more information on this process, and to see the plan and Bishop Clark's letter, please click here.
The Five Saints West Planning Council, parish councils and staff continue to seek input from all parishioners to make this clustering transition a meaningful one. We call upon the Holy Spirit for guidance in this process, so that all voices continue to be heard with sensitivity and hope for a bright future within each of our unique faith–filled communities. May our sense of ministry and stewardship increase as we look for new ways to grow in our faith and share it with others in God’s Kingdom.
